The bench game

I sat on the bench,
Watching them play.

What good would it do?
If all I did was watch
And not play?

To the world I remained
A big nothing that
Influenced no-one
In particular.

Was it worth
Sitting outside
And simply watching?

My mind and heart
Was almost ready
To pass judgement
When I began to feel
The fever of watching from the bench.

I began to yell and support
Those who were running with the ball.
I told them to pass, to kick and to defend

And when they scored a goal
It was mine also
As I felt my encouragement made them run
Faster and better in the field.

I- who sat outside the game
Was as important as those who played.

For on that day I realized
Everything was part
Of the same game.
